about me — I don’t do just one thing
For years people kept asking me the same question: so what is it you actually do? I never had a short answer, and I'm not sure I have one now.
At twenty-one I founded Playground A.P.S., a non-profit that brings the cultural programming of a big city to a small one in northeast Italy. Run by young people, for young people. Two things came out of it: All-Star Festival, four days of urban music and sport that bring close to ten thousand people to Sacile every July, and BeforePlaces, which redraws disused basketball courts with artists and the kids who grew up on them.
All of that was happening while I was getting a bachelor's in Business Administration and then a master's in Management, both at Bocconi University, the last stretch of it at EGADE Business School in Monterrey. Then I left again, to find out whether the same things worked somewhere else and at a different size. I worked on large events: two years between Chicago, which felt like home almost immediately, and Mexico City, the first city I ever fell in love with. Then the UK, Vietnam, Italy.
Now I'm a consultant at The European House - Ambrosetti, based in Milan but usually somewhere else for work. The job is looking at a problem long enough to find the thing that holds all the pieces together.
It's the same thing I go looking for with a camera. I shoot on film, which is slow and gets in the way, and that's what I want from it. It keeps me standing in front of things for longer. Which is how I eventually understood that none of this was as scattered as it looked: looking closely, then trying to show other people what I saw.
I don't do just one thing, and I stopped treating that as a problem a while ago.
